감사합니다(gam sa hap ni da) is for older people but that meaning of older people in this case is different than earlier case. in this time, older people probably will be parents generation or much older or can be just 3~5 years older than you. because 감사합니다 is higher than 고마워요 and basically, if we are not a friend relationship or someone is quite older than speaker, using 감사합니다 is proper for anytime :)
